Nanocrystalline Cores for Current Transformers

The higher permeability of CT cores results in lower measurement errors and higher measurement accuracy. A silicon steel CT core cannot achieve sufficient measurement accuracy at low ampere-turns or smaller turns. The application of Fe-Ni permalloy cores is limited due to their low magnetization and high cost. Nanocrystalline cores are widely used for precision current transformers in power systems and energy measurement and control due to their high permeability, high magnetization, and lower cost.

Nanocrystalline cores for current transformers are characterized by high permeability and high saturation inductance Bs, which increases the accuracy of the current transformer, reduces the volume and improves linearity. They also offer high temperature stability in the range from -55 °C to 120 °C.
