With the introduction of the PM179 core, we are setting new standards for large-volume ferrites. This new size expands our existing PM ferrite portfolio and offers developers maximum flexibility in the design of high-performance transformers and chokes.
In modern power electronics, the demands on efficiency and installation space are constantly increasing. Our PM ferrite cores are the first choice when it comes to combining high power transmission with excellent electromagnetic shielding. With the PM179, we are now closing the gap for applications in the highest power segment.
Technical Advantages Through Optimized Geometry
The PM design offers significant structural advantages over conventional E or ETD cores:
- Minimized stray losses:
Thanks to the nearly closed design, the winding is effectively enclosed. This reduces magnetic stray and optimizes the EMC performance of your assembly. - Efficient cooling:
The large surface area of the PM cores ensures excellent heat dissipation, which is particularly important at high current densities. - Optimal use of space:
he design allows for a highly compact winding layout with low copper losses.
Our new PM179 in focus
The new PM179/166 is for example produced for use in high-power switched-mode power supplies, induction heating, and power transmission (e.g., renewable energy and EV infrastructure).
Key facts about the PM series:
- Available materials:
We manufacture the PM179 (as well as the PM62, PM74, PM87, and PM114) in low-loss power materials (e.g., BFM8 and our new BFM95). - Customized solutions:
Upon request, we supply the cores with precisely ground air gaps to set specific AL values. Our PM ferrite cores are also available with distributed air gaps (PM core with multigap). - Accessories:
Matching coil formers and mounting accessories available upon request.
From the compact PM50 to the massive PM179/166 – our product range now offers the right solution for every performance and power level. With the PM179, we underscore our expertise as a leading manufacturer of ferrites and innovative cores.
Custom ferrite machining completes our offering to our customers.

Technical Specifications Compared: PM114 vs. PM179
The PM179 significantly extends the performance capabilities of the series. Thanks to its increased effective core volume—compared to the previously largest core in the PM series, the PM114—significantly higher energy densities can be achieved.
(Values are based on standard configurations using BFM8 core material. Customer-specific adjustments to the air gap, and the resulting values, are available upon request.)
